Shannon Construction completed the extensive renovation of approximately 160,000 square feet of core and shell space at 420 Boulevard of the Allies, transforming the former Art Institute of Pittsburgh into a modern commercial office building. Working with M&J Wilkow, Shannon helped return the historic downtown property to its earlier use as a traditional office building, capitalizing on its classic architecture while introducing contemporary finishes, building systems and amenities. The comprehensive renovation addressed the building from MEP and life-safety systems to interior finishes and common areas, creating a refreshed workplace environment with a fitness center, bike storage and showers, kitchens, gathering spaces and a rooftop deck. The transformation earned the 2018 Pittsburgh NAIOP Award for Office Renovation and helped position the property for its subsequent purchase by the City of Pittsburgh to expand its downtown offices.
